Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I save?
In 2003, the State of Florida mandated that insurance companies provided Floridians with discounts if they had certain mitigation features on their home. Many Floridians have some of these features and are eligible for discounts. You can save up to 45% of your windstorm policy premium if you have full coverage, depending on the coverage that you have. You should also be entitled to a premium reduction every year!
A State of Florida study of homes showed that homeowners were eligible for - but not receiving - an average of 18% in premium discounts. This represented an average savings of $250 a year even before any improvements to the home.

What is my first step to start saving?
Contact Panhandle Windstorm Inspections at 877-536-0630. One of our representatives will get you started. We will perform the inspection and let you know if you might receive discounts off your premium.
What if I have already paid my premium?
Most insurance companies entitle you to a premium reduction, retroactive to the beginning date of your last policy. So if it's been a while since you paid your premium, you may be entitled to a significant refund check. And, you should get that discount next year.
What are the eight critical areas of construction?
Windstorm Inspections examine eight critical areas:
- Roof Deck and Attachments
- Secondary Water Barrier
- Roof Covering
- Roof Shape and Gable End Bracing
- Roof to Wall Connections
- Opening Protection for Windows
- Opening Protection for Exterior Doors
- Wall Construction Type
What if my home does not have some of these features?
As a part of our inspection, Panhandle Windstorm Inspections will make recommendations on how you can improve the safety of your home. We will compare the construction of your home to the eight critical areas and provide you with a list of possible upgrades. If you make these upgrades, you will probably be eligible for greater discounts and have the peace of mind that the safety of your home has been improved.
