Why Panhandle Windstorm Inspections?
Panhandle Windstorm Inspections (PWI) is state approved and certified by the State of Florida to perform windstorm inspections in North Florida. PWI is the only state-certified entity located in the Panhandle, with inspectors located throughout North Florida. PWI is the only state-certified firm in North Florida to receive a “100% compliance” rating on policies and procedures from the State of Florida.
In addition, every PWI inspection goes through a rigorous Quality Assurance program where every inspection is reviewed for completeness and accuracy. Also, four color photographs of the exterior of your home and attic are included with every inspection to verify the inspection findings. More and more insurance companies are requiring color photographs to be included.
What will I save?
Every home is different and some have better features than others. However, a State of Florida analysis projects the average homeowner in North Florida will save approximately $250 in the first year. The inspection is valid for 5-years, so that means an average savings of approximately $1,250. Residents who live near the coast or in the wind borne debris area (link to map) save considerable more.
What will the windstorm inspection tell me?
A Panhandle Windstorm Inspections state-approved and certified inspector will assess 8 critical areas of your home:
1). Roof Coverings – Since 2002, the Florida Building Code has required more wind resistant roof coverings. Roof coverings installed prior to 2002 may be more susceptible to wind damage.
2). Roof Deck Attachment – How your roof deck is attached to the trusses or rafters is critical to your protection from high winds and heavy rains.
3). Roof to Wall Attachment – One of the ways to help create a wind resistant home is to secure the roof to wall connections. Many homes have hurricane clips.
4). Shape of Roof – The shape of your roof helps determine how well it will perform in high winds.
5). Gable End Bracing – The gable end bracing helps determine perform against high winds.
6). Secondary Water Barrier Resistance – A secondary water barrier provides protection if the roof covering is damaged or blown off in high winds.
7). Window Protection – Windows can be protected from wind borne debris by installing impact-resistant windows or shutters.
8). Doors – Exterior doors, including garage doors, should also be wind and impact resistant or protected with shutters.
Windstorm and hurricane mitigation experts agree that these features are critical to “harden” your home and safeguard your family.
