All Floridians Face Risk

The risk of loss from a hurricane is something that each Floridian faces. We know that hurricanes cannot be prevented but many Floridians are not aware that there are things that they can do to better protect their property from damage or destruction. Certain construction techniques and features are very effective at protecting your property and family. If your property has these characteristics you may already qualify for a discount on your insurance premium.

Is Your Home Safe? -- A Complete Analysis

Panhandle Windstorm Inspection will provide you with:

PWI's state certified-inspectors will assess seven critical areas of your home -- roof deck and attachments, secondary water barrier, roof covering, roof shape and bracing, roof to wall connections, opening protection for windows and doors.

Windstorm and hurricane mitigation experts agree that these features are critical to "harden" your home and safeguard your family.

And, hardened homes are eligible for reduced homeowner's insurance rates. We can help you get these discounts.

Our Inspectors will examine your home and prepare a report covering these areas. Also, you will receive information on how you can make your home safer.

Save on Your Homeowners Insurance

Since 2003 the State of Florida has mandated that wind insurance companies offer discounts for windstorm mitigation features. Qualifying construction techniques and features require independent certification from a licensed expert. As part of your windstorm report we will complete the necessary paperwork for you to submit to your insurance company to receive these credits if you are eligible.

Many homeowners receive insurance discounts in excess of the cost of the inspection in just the first year! And, if you make mitigation improvements to the seven critical areas, these discounts could increase!

Cost of a Windstorm Inspection

We have a standard rate of $150 for all single-family homes. We accept cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Payment is due at the time of the inspection.

The seven critical areas of a safer home

  1. Roof Deck and Attachment - How your roof deck is attached is critical to your protection from high winds and rain.
  2. Secondary Water Barrier - A secondary water barrier provides protection if the roof covering is damaged or blown off.
  3. Roof Covering - Since 2002, the Florida Building Code has required more wind resistant roof covering. Roof coverings installed prior to 2002 may be more susceptible to wind damage.
  4. Type of Roof and Bracing - The shape of your roof and its bracing can help determine how well it will perform.
  5. Roof to Wall Connections - One of the ways to help create a wind resistant home is to secure the roof to wall connections.
  6. Window Protection - Windows can be protected from wind borne debris by installing impact-resistant windows or shutters.
  7. Doors - Exterior doors, including garage doors, should also be wind and impact resistant or protected with shutters.
